About the Society

The Serbian Anatomical Society represents a long-standing professional and academic tradition in anatomy, histology, embryology, and related biomedical sciences. Through its work, the Society brings together university teachers, researchers, clinicians, and young scholars devoted to the advancement of anatomical knowledge.

The Society continues to promote scientific exchange, academic cooperation, and education, while preserving an important historical legacy established over decades of professional activity.

Historical Milestones

July 1955

Paris

The idea of establishing a professional anatomical association was initiated by prominent anatomists, laying the foundation for a long-lasting scientific tradition.

1 July 1956

Founding Assembly in Belgrade

The Society was formally founded in Belgrade. Prof. Dr Branko Šljivić was elected President, Prof. Dr Vladeta Simić Secretary, and Academician Prof. Drago Perović Honorary President.

1956 onward

Regional Scientific Community

The association brought together anatomists, histologists, and many anthropologists from medical and veterinary faculties across Yugoslavia, becoming an important academic platform.

The modern Serbian Anatomical Society continues the scientific, educational, and professional mission of its predecessors.

Congress Tradition

The congress tradition of the Society and its predecessors spans many decades, with meetings organized in cities across the region, including Zagreb, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Skopje, Belgrade, Rijeka, Novi Sad, Niš, and others.

Since the establishment of the Serbian Anatomical Society in 2006, congresses have continued to be organized under the SADS name, including meetings in Novi Sad, Vrnjačka Banja, Niš, and Belgrade.
